Temperatures and Light for April and May 2026

Water temperature and light intensity were monitored continuously from 1 April to 19 May 2026.

Water temperature remained relatively stable, ranging from approximately 29.0 to 31.2 °C. Temperatures gradually increased throughout April, peaked in late April, and then steadily declined during May. The final temperature spike was excluded from the analysis because it occurred after the sensor had been removed from the water.

Daily mean light intensity was more variable, ranging from approximately 90 to 320 lux, while the continuous data showed a regular diurnal cycle with daily peaks during the lighting period and values close to zero during darkness. Although light intensity fluctuated markedly from day to day, water temperature exhibited only minor short-term changes, suggesting effective thermal buffering of the system.

The overall temperature trend is consistent with the seasonal transition from the dry season to the onset of the southwest monsoon. Higher temperatures in late April were likely associated with greater solar radiation, whereas the gradual cooling observed during May reflects increased cloud cover and rainfall typical of the early monsoon period.

Unfortunately, the temperature and light sensor was lost, most likely as a result of the severe monsoon conditions, and therefore no data were available for June and July 2026.

Nevertheless, we have redeployed the pH, % Dissolved Oxygen, and Temperature sensors at the study site. Monitoring has resumed, and we will provide updates as new data become available.
